Dr. Margolis will be in Chicago, IL from August 28 through September 2 as a member of the faculty of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, National Law Enforcement Leadership Institute on Violence Against Women.  Funded by the US Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), the Institute provides leadership education for senior police leaders on crimes of violence against women that include stalking, sexual assault, human trafficking and domestic violence.  Dr. Margolis is a founding faculty member and is also involved in the Trainer Development Program run through the IACP under the OVW grant.

Managing Partner Steven Healy will be presenting the keynote address at the Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis and Blackboard Connect symposium “This is Not a Test: Event Notifications & Your Campus Community”.  The symposium will be held August 11-12 at the Informatics and Communications Technology Complex at IUPUI, 535 W. Michigan St., Indianapolis, Indiana.  Healy’s keynote address titled “When Crisis Comes to Campus: Moving from Hope to Trust.” will be delivered at 9:15am on Tuesday August 11th.  The symposium will include panel discussions and presentations on a variety of topics, including legislation, telecommunications, and time-sensitive mass communications. Managing Partner Steven Healy will be an instructor at the 2009 Clery Act training seminar hosted by the Fairfield University Department of Public Safety, sole recipient of the 2008 Jeanne Clery Award.

The seminar is organized through Security On Campus, Inc., the only national, non-profit organization devoted exclusively to assisting the victims of violence on college campuses and to improving campus security.  Founded in 1987 by Connie & Howard Clery, following the murder of their daughter at Lehigh University in 1986, Security On Campus was the driving force behind the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, now known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, requiring all colleges receiving federal funds to report crime statistics. Until 1988, only four percent of America’s colleges reported crime statistics to the FBI. 

The 10-hour comprehensive instruction course is drawing security chiefs and other campus officials from throughout New England and as far away as Arizona.  The seminar covers areas related to security programs, victim support services and collecting and reporting crime data and this year is updating its program to include 2008 reporting requirements on:

•  Expanded Hate Crime Reporting
•  Partnering With Local Police
•  Emergency Response & Immediate Notification
