In October 2011, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) hosted the first-ever National Summit on Campus Safety for College and University Presidents. Nearly 70 representatives from colleges and universities across the country and Puerto Rico came together to discuss the critically important issue of campus safety. Attendees shared information related to campus crime and worked to strengthen safety programs by developing campus-based coordinated community responses to domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
In one outcome from the summit, the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Center has developed, in collaboration with OVW staff, the new Web page, Presidential and Trustee Leadership - Sexual Violence, Intimate Partner Violence & Stalking, which provides information on research, federal mandates, and resources, as well as specific actions presidents and trustees can take to address sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and stalking.
