White House and OCR Release Documents on Sexual Assault and Title IX

On Tuesday, April 29, 2014, the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault released their first report, Not Alone, along with the Office of Civil Rights' 52-point guidance document, or Q &A, on Title IX and Sexual Violence.

The Not Alone report issues the first set of action steps and recommendations from the White House Task Force while the OCR document is intended to serve as additional "guidance concerning elementary and secondary schools and postsecondary institutions obligations under Title IX to address sexual violence as a form of sexual harassment." OCR continues to state that "the following questions and answers further clarify the legal requirements and guidance articulated in the DCL and the 2001 Guidance and include examples of proactive efforts schools can take to prevent sexual violence and remedies schools may use to end such conduct, prevent its recurrence, and address its effects."
